Frequently Asked Questions

Shuttle:

 

Due to limited parking at the start of the race Camp Read will be running a shuttle to the start from the Horicon Community Center. They will have a canoe trailer attached and a van to move people from their parked cars to the beginning of the race.

 

You are welcome to drop your own boat off at the start if you prefer your boat not be shuttled. If you have supporters or family members attending the race, we encourage you to have them drop you off at the start after you register.

 

We will have 30 minutes between the end of registration and the start of the race. It helps to arrive early.

Registration:

 

Registration opens on July 12th,. 2023. You will need to pick up information the night before the race or the morning of. Regardless of how you signed up, you will need to complete a race waiver and you will receive a number to put on your boat at registration.

 

We have room for 125 participants to register in the race this year. This is to ensure that we have space for parking and traffic. Be sure to sign up ahead of time!

All paddlers must complete a waiver to participate. Lack of waiver will bar paddlers from race entry. Download waiver here.

 

Prizes:

 

Ribbons will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place paddlers in each category.  There are no set items or cash prizes in this race.

 

Raffle:

 

The North Warren Chamber of Commerce will be raffling off several items to help fundraise at the event. Paddlers will each be given some tickets and are able to purchase more on site.

The Start:

 

The race will start in waves beginning at 9:30 am.  Boats will be in water at 9:30 and boat classes will be called to the starting line.

Will There be a safety boat?

There will be a safety boat sponsored  on the water the day of the event. However, the safety boat is there for emergencies only. This is a self supported race. You are responsible for getting your boat and yourself to the finish.

What If my boat does not fit into the registration class guidelines?

 

If you plan on paddling vessel that does not fit in with a predetermined class  feel free to contact the race director at northwarrencanoe@gmail.com or call 585.507.5090. The vessels will start in the Rec class.
